The Welsh top flight, known as the Cymru Premier, is the first tier in Wales. Its defining trait comes before any result: the country's biggest clubs do not play in it. Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham and Newport compete in the English system for historical reasons, so the Cymru Premier brings together twelve clubs that stayed inside the Welsh pyramid, often from small towns or villages.
